![]() Yes, our taste buds are on our tongue, but our taste is strongly affected by smell as well as the contact between tongue and hard palate (roof of the mouth). When that contact is lost because of denture coverage, food may become tasteless. Different individuals are affected to a different degree. Some people are not bothered by it at all. Some people find their food totally tastless after they have lost all their teeth and need full dentures. There are few options for those who are highly susceptible. The only way out is to make a fixed prosthesis supported by implants. Bridges normally do not cover much of the soft tissue in the mouth. Hence, taste is not affected when the patient has a bridge fitted. In cases where the patient has only a few or no teeth left, the only option is to get a full arch bridge supported by implants done.
